I got my start at a very early age, I felt that I had good chops. My story starts when I was a kid in high school. I signed up for this speech class to learn how to give speeches. The kids in my class would ask me what are you doing here, "You are such a good speaker." I went on and studied speech and broadcasting in college. I got a ton of practical experience by signing up as a student newscaster for the local NPR radio and TV station that was attached to the college.
When I got out of college, I wanted to serve my country as a VISTA Volunteer. When I got out of VISTA, I looked for a job where I could continue my love of public speaking with my desire to continue to serve my country.
I found a job in the federal government where I had a chance to excel at speaking. I traveled all over the country doing training for all sorts of audiences, big and small. I even found myself underneath a tent doing training on a tennis court in Phoenix in the hot sun. It started out in the hotel's ballroom, but due to the size of my audience, we ended up outdoors due to a local capacity ordinance.
When the internet was just blossoming, I also saw the huge possibilities that the internet posed for communicating with people. This was way before ZOOM was even a thought in anyone's mind. Everybody in the office had a piece of software on their office laptop that could be used for Internet meetings. It was called Microsoft Live Meeting. Nobody ever used it. it was clunky and complicated. But a light went on in my head. I said why don't we use this software to reach the American people? I taught myself the software and became the producer, host, and interviewer. I ended up with a national audience for my webinars way before ZOOM or YouTube. Here's an example of my hosting skills: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1E5BCY89maAOMJJMMhKGKZuyqwca2Dh77/view?usp=sharing
I retired from the government a couple of years ago, and now I am the host of a weekly one-hour internet program for a local agency that provides reading services to the blind and visually impaired. Bringing life to words for blind people is something I love doing. My way of giving back for all my blessings.
